In Spring 2011 two sister cities launched the photography exchange, “Yekaterinburg and San José Through the Eyes of One Another.” The goal of the project is to explore two cultures utilizing temporary public art and photography by American artists in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and Russian photographers in San José, California.

Three American photographers spent seven days in Yekaterinburg in May. In return two Russian photographers from Yekaterinburg spent a week in San José in June. Eight graduate students from the Photography Program at SJSU filmed alongside the Russian team, photographing citizens and the city of San Jose from a regional perspective.

The work created during this international exchange is concurrently on display at the Metenkhov House Photo Museum in Yekaterinburg, Russia and the Fourth Street City Windows Gallery at City Hall- San Jose, California. The U.S. State Department and the Bilateral Presidential Commission commissioned a book and film to highlight this project Fall 2011.
